About Us

Trainer Leann "Annie" Phenix holds a fascination and respect for all animals, and none more so than dogs. She has enjoyed the company of dogs in her life every day for close to half a century. She fostered her first dog more than 15 years ago and since then, more than 300 dogs have called her a home a temporary resting place before their permanent homes were found. She taught good house manners to every dog she has fostered.

In the summer of 2007, Annie formalized her training and achieved a Canine Specialist certificate from a Texas dog training academy. She is also an AKC Canine Good Citizen Evaluatorz. Her goal is to utilize all that she has learned from a lifetime dogs to help dogs and their owners learn to communicate in a happy, healthy, effective way. Annie teaches dogs with the use of the incredible, powerful and pain-free animal training tool -- the clicker! Annie has years of experience working with every kind of dog, from purebred to mixed breed, from young puppies to senior dogs. She has trained dogs to be good house pets and she has worked with detection dogs, Agility dogs and Herding dogs. She regularly trains client dogs for a successful performance for the AKC Canine Good Citizen award and three of her pack of six have achieved that title. Annie is a lifelong learner and she is currently learning Rally O and tracking with two of her dogs.

Annie and her husband, Jeff, live on a Hill Country ranch. They share their daily lives with 5 horses, 6 donkeys, 4 sheep, a feral cat and 6 dogs (all of whom were once homeless). Annie is a member of both the International Association of Canine Professionals and a full member of the Association of Pet Dog Trainers of America. She has also achieved Level 2 with her horse Quarter Horse, Milagro, in the Natural Horsemanship world. She rides her own horses on Central Texas trails and competes as a Team Penner.

Prior to becoming a professional dog trainer, Annie founded the nationally recognized publicity firm, Phenix & Phenix Literary Publicists, Inc. She sold that company in 2005 in order to pursue her passion for helping animals and their people. Her former company is now called Bookpros, Inc.

She was named the Austin Communicator of the Year by Women in Communication in 2000 and her firm was awarded national and local awards every year she owned the company.
